André-Michel

Chemist by training & developer · Montréal, Quebec

I'm André-Michel, the person behind Bam's Thinkery. I trained as a chemist and taught myself to build for the web. Every tool on this site — more than 100 of them — is something I designed, coded, and maintain myself, in my spare time.

Why you can trust the numbers

A chemistry background leaves you with one habit above all: never present a number without knowing where it comes from. So the calculators here cite the formulas and standards they're built on — Mifflin-St Jeor for metabolic rate, EFSA and the Institute of Medicine for hydration, and ACGIH, NIOSH, OSHA and ASHRAE for the industrial-hygiene tools. When a result rests on an assumption, the tool states it. The method is always on the page, so you can check the math yourself.

What I build

The tools span everyday needs (timers, converters, calculators for finance and health) and a few more technical corners — most notably a set of industrial-hygiene calculators for noise, exposure, ventilation and heat stress. All of them are free, run entirely in your browser, and exist in both English and French.
