About Bam's Thinkery
103+ free browser-based tools — built by a small indie studio from Montreal because utility sites still look like 2008.
Who We Are
Bam's Thinkery is a small independent project based in Montreal, Quebec. We are a two-person team — a designer and a developer — who got tired of opening a unit converter or a timer and being greeted by ads stacked four deep, buttons that don't work on mobile, and interfaces that haven't been updated since the first Obama administration.
We started building our own replacements in our spare time. One tool turned into ten, ten turned into fifty, and today Thinkery Tools has more than 103 free, ad-supported utilities spanning ten categories: Productivity, Finance, Health & Wellness, Math & Conversion, Writing, Dev & Design, Lifestyle, Family, Students, and Food & Cooking. Every single one runs instantly in your browser — no account, no install, no wait.
Our Philosophy: Zero Friction
We have one rule for every tool we ship: it must work the moment the page loads. No sign-up form, no cookie wall blocking the interface, no “start your free trial” modal. You open the page and the tool is there, ready.
We also believe that free should actually mean free. None of the tools are crippled demo versions of a paid product. You are not the product either — we do not sell your data, build behavioral profiles, or share information with third parties beyond what Google AdSense requires to show non-personalized ads. The ads are what keep the lights on. Your attention for a few seconds, not your personal information.
All computation happens locally in your browser. When you type a number into a loan calculator, run a Pomodoro session, or generate a password, none of that data leaves your device. There is no server receiving your inputs.
What Makes Us Different
We obsess over the details that other utility sites skip. Here is what that looks like in practice:
- Mobile-first layout. Every tool is designed for a 375 px screen first. Touch targets are large enough to tap without zooming. Inputs do not overflow their containers. If a tool feels awkward on a phone, we consider it broken.
- Bilingual EN/FR. All tools are available in English and French with proper accented characters and natural phrasing — not machine-translated placeholders. Switch languages with a single tap; the URL updates so you can bookmark your preference.
- Four themes. Warm, Cyber, Edit, and Terminal — because you should be able to use a tool without it torching your eyes at 2 am. The selected theme persists across visits.
- Keyboard accessible. Every interactive element is reachable by keyboard and announces itself correctly to screen readers. Accessibility is not an afterthought.
- No cruft. No “related articles” that are really just SEO bait. No popups asking you to subscribe to a newsletter. Just the tool, clearly labeled, doing exactly what it says.
A Few Tools Worth Trying
With 103 tools across ten categories, it can be hard to know where to start. Here are six that see heavy daily use:
- Pomodoro Timer — A classic 25/5 focus timer with task tracking, custom interval presets, and an audible chime. Works offline after the first load.
- Loan Calculator — Enter a principal, interest rate, and term to get your monthly payment, total interest, and a full amortization breakdown. Useful for mortgages, car loans, and personal lines of credit.
- BMI Calculator — Calculates Body Mass Index from height and weight in metric or imperial units, with a plain-language interpretation of the result.
- Password Generator — Generates cryptographically random passwords of any length with fine-grained control over character sets. Nothing is sent to a server — ever.
- Color Picker — Pick a color visually, then copy it instantly as HEX, RGB, or HSL. Useful for front-end work, design mockups, and matching brand colors.
- Cooking Converter — Converts cups, tablespoons, grams, ounces, milliliters, and more — because every recipe seems to use a different unit system.
Built for Real Use
Every tool on Thinkery Tools was built because someone needed it and found the existing options frustrating. The Cooking Converter exists because scaling a recipe at 7 pm with flour on your hands is not the moment to wrestle a clunky interface. The Password Generator exists because the alternatives either look suspicious or require a login. The Pomodoro Timer exists because the popular alternatives are cluttered with premium upsells.
We validate each tool against a simple checklist before publishing: does it load in under two seconds on a mid-range Android? Does it work without JavaScript enabled for the static fallback? Does it pass WCAG 2.1 AA for contrast and keyboard navigation? Is every label translated in both languages with correct grammar and accents?
If a tool fails any of those checks, it does not ship. We would rather have 103 well-built tools than 200 mediocre ones.
Our Other Projects
Sync · Carry is our mental load diagnostic tool for couples. It helps partners map who carries what — household tasks, emotional labor, planning, childcare, and start an honest conversation about the balance. It is also free and requires no account. Available at bams-thinkery.ca/sync-carry.
